Financing & leasing
- Most Sri Lankan banks and finance companies offer vehicle leases that cover EVs; some run EV-specific promotions.
- Compare on three things: the effective interest rate, the tenure, and the down-payment — a low monthly can hide a long, expensive tenure.
- Check the lease term against the manufacturer battery warranty (often 8 years for BYD) — you want the battery covered for the life of the lease.
- Rates change frequently; get written quotes from two or three lenders and compare the total amount payable, not just the monthly.
Insurance
- Take comprehensive cover — the battery is the single most expensive component to replace.
- Ask explicitly how the battery is treated in a total-loss or damage claim, and whether charging equipment is covered.
- Confirm the insurer can source EV parts and has approved repairers for your make.
Run the numbers first: our TCO calculator shows how lower running costs offset a higher purchase price over the years you'll own it — useful when sizing a lease.
